******* 🪼🪼🪼

Victor Huguenin composes more or less electroacoustic music and plays the violin more or less electrically, notably with his solo project Coronal Mass Ejection; where the sound of the violin fuses with a host of effects to create epic romantic noise fairytale atmospheres…

glox olia is an anonymous project from Mexico. An attempt to deliver a meditative experience that allows us to contemplate the interior and the unconscious; the name is a kind of mantric dichotomy that represents entry/exit, inhalation/exhalation, an infinite cycle.

Alan Courtis is a Buenos Aires-born experimental composer, musician and founding member of the cult Argentinian band Reynols. He has released several hundred albums and collaborated with artists such as Pauline Oliveros, Lee Ranaldo, Jim O’Rourke, Merzbow and Otomo Yoshihide. His music always has a strong experimental feel and is generally based on highly skilled techniques of prepared sounds, tape manipulations, field recording processing, live electronics, objects, cymbals, synthesizers and computer tools. He plays traditional instruments as well as strange and unusual ones of his own construction, such as the bare-string guitar.

The concert’s after hours was a danza Mexicatl-Chichimecatl  at the oldest port of Europe. Video here!!!

Don’t miss this wild dive into the Witch’s Kitchen!

Active Cultures is thrilled to present Witch’s Kitchen Banquet and Cabaret: an eclectic set of performances and collaborations conceived and directed by artist Shana Lutker that celebrates the grotesque, the surreal, and the underground. The series marks the culmination of Witch’s Kitchen, hosted by Lutker, a multifaceted, three-year project, which expands on the generative intersection of performance and presence through the legacy of our spirit guide, Valeska Gert (1892–1978).

Kamilya Jubran en la Cité Internationale des Arts

Saturday, 2nd July, 2022, 18h-19h

Red Social by Adriana Lara & Lovely Daze by Charwei Tsai

Presents a special performance by Kamilya Jubran

“Through my musical experiences with the group “Sabreen”, with which I sang and played for 20 years, and the diligent practice of classical Arabic singing from a young age, my questions about substance, atmosphere and role of my songs have multiplied and intensified. For this show, I have chosen to share these questions, and to make them always remain present in the mind”. Kamilya Jubran

« A travers mes expériences musicales avec le groupe « Sabreen »,  avec lequel j’ai chanté et joué pendant 20 ans, et la pratique assidue du chant arabe classique depuis mon plus jeune âge, mes questionnements sur la substance, l’atmosphère et le rôle de mes chansons se sont multipliées et intensifiées. Dans ce spectacle, j’ai choisi de faire partager ces interrogations, et de faire qu’elles restent toujours présentes à l’esprit ». Kamilya Jubran

For the occasion of “Croisements: Les Rencontres de Montmartre” co-organized by Art Explora, Cite international des arts, and Beaux-Arts Academy, two artists from the Art Explora program, Adriana Lara and Charwei Tsai are honored to present a performance by internationally well-known Palestinian musician Kamilya Jubran.

Kamilya will be performing songs in Arabic inspired by the poetry of Salman Masalha, Fadhil Al Azzawi, Hassan Najmi, Dimitri T Analis, and Paul Chaoul, who bravely confronts the struggles of their native lands with their naked and illuminating voices.

Kamilya Jubran grew up in Al Rameh – a palestinian village situated in GalilĂ©e, in the north of Israel. Raised by her music loving parents, she was introduced and initiated to classical arabic music, and particularly by her father Elias Jubran – a music teacher and an instrument maker.

At the age of 18 Kamilya made her move to Jerusalem, where she studied at the Hebrew university, and simultaneously explored her new musical pathway by joining Sabreen group-based in East Jerusalem. www.sabreen.org. With the group she recorded four albums and toured in many local as well as international towns and cities. The very rich and intensive 2 decades of constant work with the group urged her to deepen her music research and consequently to shape and reshape her musical identity.

Since 2002 Kamilya lives in Europe, the first move was to Switzerland, then a year later to Paris, where she is based.

In 2014 she founded Zamkana association, a non profit organisation that supports and accompanies original innovative artistic projects, respecting the values of freedom of expression and secularism.

Air de l’Ă®le Saint-Denis: Claudia Stöckli + Mustafa Taleb

June 2022 at Pancafe, 9 place de la LibĂ©ration, L’ĂŽle-Saint-Denis

A musical performance by 2 musicians in residence at the Cité Internationale des Arts de Paris: Claudia Stöckli, Swiss sound artist, and Mostafa Taleb, Iranian musician playing the kamancheh (Persian stringed instrument), propose an open-air sound piece, imitating nature and finding harmony between new and old sounds. Analog, synthetic sounds and field recordings blend and resonate into new sounds. The environment, the garden as microcosm, also becomes part of the sound performance.
